Leigh Visitor Centre
Auckland University’s marine laboratory, near Leigh at the Cape Rodney-Okakari Point Marine Reserve, is a centre for marine sciences and research. As part of the campus redevelopment in 2010, a new visitor centre was built opposite Goat Island. Contracted by the university, Paradigm worked with Rick Pearson Associates, Chris Gaskin of Natural Lines and Bernard Makoare to research, design and produce the interpretation installation. Cutting edge research informed much of the context for this work, alongside stunning images from renowned marine photographers Kim Westerskov, locals Tony and Jenny Enderby, and many others. Our marine environment is critical to our economic and social well-being, and educating and encouraging young people into the marine sciences is a key goal for the centre.
